Hi everyone,

The past 18 months have been hard. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and the recent wave of forest fires, have challenged our community, and each of us, in unprecedented ways.

They say laughter is the best medicine, and I don’t know about you, but I could certainly use some right now. Which is why Third Space Charity is excited to be planning an evening of good, old-fashioned fun designed to make you giggle, chuckle, chortle, hoot, guffaw, and well, laugh.

In fact, we’re calling the event Laugh! Presented by the Payton and Dillon Budd Memorial Fund, it’s a lighthearted, vintage-themed, variety show-style fundraiser in aid of a serious cause near and dear to our hearts – mental health!

It’s estimated 1.2 million children and youth in Canada are affected by mental illness, yet less than 1 in 5 will receive appropriate treatment.  By age 25, approximately 20 per cent of Canadians will develop a mental illness, and those aged 15 to 24 are more likely to experience mental illness and/or substance use disorders than any other age group. And the Covid-19 pandemic has only exacerbated this mental health crisis. Third Space Charity helps by offering a high-level, clinically supervised practicum training program for the next generation of mental health care professionals, and by providing free, supportive care counselling services to young people from 18 to 29 as they navigate the transition from youth to adulthood. The need is great, and we can’t hope to meet it without the support of our community.

This is where you come in. We’d love you to come and laugh with us. Laugh! will include an online auction, hilarious stand-up comedy by Denis Grignon (as featured on CBC Radio’s The Debaters) and local comic Paige Matheson, music performances by Juno-award winning Darryl James (Close Kicks solo artist and bass player for the Strumbellas) and local vintage trio Kitsch ‘n Sync, magic by Alex Zander,

an epic joke contest, and more, all while raising much-needed funds to support the valuable work Third Space Charity does.
